چکیده
Lysozyme, a cationic protein, is found in biological fluids such as saliva both in the free form and associated with anionic proteins and polysaccharides to form reversible complexes. The degree of complexing depends on the concentration of these constituents, pH, and storage time, as well as other factors (2-6). Thus all our acid-treated samples gave higher values. Accurate determination of lysozyme in biological fluids should therefore take these variables into consideration. In this investigation we determined unbound and released lysozyme in parotid fluid samples of normal donors under standardized experimental conditions: acidification, which released the bound lysozyme; centrifugation, which eliminated the proteins present; and neutralization of the supernatant fluid to the original pH of the parotid saliva. This standardized procedure can be used for studying alterations in the concentration of lysozyme in parotid saliva that may be caused by various exogenous and endogenous factors or conditions such as eating, drinking, or smoking before sample collection; inflammation or infection in the oral cavity; and hormonal variations and systemic diseases. Thus the role of lysozyme in parotid saliva can be better understood.

Partial characterization of an abnormal lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme, LDH-1ex, in serum from a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma.
Serum from a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma contained an abnormal isoenzyme of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH; EC 1.1.1.27), LDH-1ex, that on electrophoresis on 10-g/L agarose gel migrated anodally to the LDH-1 band. This isoenzyme was partly purified by ultrafiltration and preparative electrophoresis. Gel chromatography and sodium dodecyl sulfate/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis studies o...
متن کاملLactate dehydrogenase-immunoglobulin G complex in the serum of the postburn patient.
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)-immunoglobulin (Ig) complex has been reported in various diseases (1). Here we describe circulating LDH-IgG complex in a postburn patient; the complex appeared to be related to the progression of burn in this case. A 13-year-old Chinese male was admitted to our hospital with burns over 20% of his body. Some of the relevant laboratory test results and reference interv...
متن کاملAbnormal lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme in serum and tumor tissue of a patient with neuroblastoma.
Serum and tumor tissue of a patient with neuroblastoma contained an abnormal isoenzyme of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH; EC 1.1.1.27), which, on agarose gel electrophoresis, migrated between LDH-2 and LDH-3 with a mobility the same as that of the extra LDH isoenzyme found in normal human erythrocytes. On surgical removal of the tumor, the high total LDH activity (775 U/L) in the serum of the patie...

1269 7 135 ± 13 1510 6 164 ± 17 1920 5 320 ± 35 We recently observed a serum showing a definite LDH 6 band with an increase in CK-BB. The patient, a 77year-old man, had suffered a concussion. The serum was sent to us from the hospital to which he had beeh admitted. Serum total CK was 368 U/L (normal 0-178). Total LDH 2010 U/L (normal 100-225). Cellulose acetate electrophoresis (Helena system) t...
متن کاملEffect of chlorocamphene on the isoenzyme spectrum of lactate dehydrogenase in rat serum and liver.
Rats were used to study the general activity and the isoenzyme spectrum of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) during single-instance and long-term introduction of polychlorocamphene. Total lactate dehydrogenase activity decreases in the liver during the single-instance introduction of half the LD50 (120 mg/kg). The isoenzyme spectrum of LDH is characterized by an increase in the quantity of LDH1, LDH2...
متن کاملDermatomyositis associated with testicular tumour with elevation of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzyme-1.
Sir, It is well known that dermatomyositis (DM) is frequently associated with internal malignancy (1 ^ 2). Common malignant neoplasms found in association with DM are breast, lung, ovary, stomach and colon. Among such malignancies, testicular tumour appears to be rare and we found only one published case report of this combination (3). We report here a case of DM associated with a testicular tu...
